Study in Norway

The following contains information about financial support and exchange opportunities eligible for Indonesian citizens who want to study in Norway. Currently there are only two programs relevant for Indonesian citizens; respectively the Quota Scheme and the Erasmus Mundus Program. All information is accessed at www.siu.no.

The Quota Scheme

Requirements:

• Students from developing countries in the South, Central- and East-Europe and Central-Asia.
• Students should be offered relevant education that would also benefit their home countries when they return after graduation.
• Normally includes courses at the Master and Ph.D. level, in addition to certain professional degrees.
• Normally only includes enrolled students from institutions which have collaboration agreements with Norwegian universities or university colleges.

Application process: You will first need to contact your home institutions international office and investigate whether they have a collaboration agreement with any Norwegian institutions of higher education. All applications and questions should be sent directly to the International Office at the university/college to which the student applies. The deadline for applying for the Quota scheme is usually December 1 every year.
Financing: The Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund (Statens Lånekasse) is responsible for managing the financial support for Quota students. The funding is given as grants (30%) and loans (70%), but for the Quota Scheme students, the educational loan may be remitted when the students return to their home country to take up permanent residence after the completion or termination of their studies. Students may also apply for financial support for travel expenses (fixed prices) to Norway, and for one annual visit home if the study program lasts for more than one year. Financial support for field work may also be granted.

Erasmus Mundus

This is an EU and EEC program. Erasmus Mundus offers integrated Master- and PhD programs as collaborative projects between three or more European institutions, selected through a very competitive process. Each single program can offer a number of student grants for particularly qualified applicants.

Application process: You apply to Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses by contacting the consortiums that offers them directly. Norwegian institutions presently participate in 15 different Erasmus Mundus programs.

Specific institutions that provides with exchange opportunities are:
United World Colleges: A Norwegian international high school with exchange opportunities in Flekke, Norway. The programmes are open for Indonesian nationals and offers scholarships.
AFS: A non-profit organization which offers student exchange programs. They have their own scholarship scheme.
